International safety management code was firstly adopted under SOLAS CH. IX to become mandatory for companies operating certain types of ships and then adopted by IMO resolution A.741(18)

It requires the entitiy who operate the ship (Company or person) to establish a safety management system to comply with the ISM code in operating the ship

The International safety management code establish objectives for the safe operation of ship and environment protection

The requires the company to establish ISM policy and procedures within its safety management system to achieve such objectives

It required the company to appoint a “Designated person a shore” to be the link between the management and the ship and must have access to the top management
